Standing on the Shoulders of Giants - Our Contributions to the Software We Use

Isaac Newton is quoted as saying "If I have seen a little further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants". We realize that much of what we do would be very difficult or beyond possible if it weren't for the contributions of many people in the programming and software development community. Our ability to develop rich database-driven applications for commercial sale is built upon programming languages such as PHP and MySQL, and we use software such as Firefox and Firebug. For this reason, we also donate, or contribute financially, to these groups.

In addition, we are part of the public forum by suggesting updates and features for the products that we use; they don't always get approved or used, but it feels good to "vote with your fingers" about how software should be developed. We don't mind when our customers suggest improvements to the applications we develop for them, either. It's what makes us better as a company. I started out Compass Point Media coming from a construction and bookkeeping/accounting background, though I'd worked with databases for years before that. So we always cheefully appreciate your feedback!

It's my belief that we would be better as a nation if more of us wrote letters; thank you notes to companies who develop a good product, critiques or criticisms to companies who have missed the mark on their customer service; instead of simply walking out and complaining.
